Washington To Give Antiviral Drugs To WHO

The U.S. government said on Thursday it will give 420,000 treatment courses of Tamiflu to the Pan-American Health Organization to help fight the new H1N1 influenza virus in Latin America and the Caribbean.

HONG Kong yesterday detected a strain of swine flu that was resistant to Tamiflu, the main anti-viral flu drug, the health department reported on its website.

Medication Tamiflu Side Effects:
Tamiflu is generally well
tolerated. Tamiflu may cause mild-to-moderate nausea or vomiting
in one out of 10 people. Taking it with food may reduce the
potential for these side effects. Other less common side effects
may include bronchitis, sleeplessness and vertigo.
Precautions on using Tamiflu
You should not take Tamiflu if
you are allergic to oseltamivir phosphate or any other
ingredients of Tamiflu. Before starting treatment, make sure
your doctor knows if you are taking any other medication or have
any type of kidney disease.
Medication Tamiflu Drug Interaction:
Tamiflu has been shown to have a
good safety profile, with minimal chance of drug interactions.
Your doctor or health care professional may recommend taking
over-the-counter medications to reduce fever or other symptoms
while the antiviral action of Tamiflu takes effect. Before
starting treatment make sure that your health care professional
knows if you are taking any other medication.
Overdose:
If Tamiflu overdose
is suspected, contact your local poison control center or
emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include
dizziness and weakness.
